OMHO , Sometime in the near future oil exporters will start thinking about the future and limiting exports , the USA , Russia , and a few other countries in the mid east could easily decide to keep their lights on and the rest of the world go hang .

I continue to wonder if there is some amount of carbon expenditure that is “acceptable” if it goes toward replacement technologies while coupled with consumption changes. (There’s an analogy to ‘stopping the bleeding while waiting for a transplant.) I realize that is me holding out some hope for my grandkids. I also know it’s a pipe dream given the very reasons you point out here.
If you’ll forgive one contribution of levity, this part: “They will keep dancing towards the edge of the cliff just ahead while being encouraged by the ruling elite profitting from the false narratives…” made me envision Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed doing the Charleston while the floor was opening behind them, exposing the pool, in “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
If I were in charge of the world, our remaining resources would be first and foremost dedicated to decommissioning as safely as possible all the dangerous complexities we have scattered across the planet: nuclear power plants and their radioactive waste materials; biosafety labs and their dangerous pathogens; and chemical production plants and storage facilities and their toxic materials. After that would be a focus on relocalising as much potable water procurement, food production, and regional shelter needs as possible for as many as possible. Then I would beg everyone to cross their fingers.
And I love It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s one of the Christmas movies we watch almost every year. Along with Elf, Die Hard, and The Life of Brian…and a few others.
